So he's never wanted to pass on his own genes? "I've never regretted not having children. My mindset in that regard has been constant. I objected to being born, and I refuse to impose life on someone else. Living, it's awful for me. I can't on one hand argue the futility of life and the pointlessness of existence and have a family. It doesn't sit comfortably. "I enjoy myself hugely," he says, with a laugh, "but you know, it's despite myself, really."

그렇다면 그에게는 자신의 유전자를 물려주고 싶은 적이 없었단 말인가? "아이를 안 낳은 걸 후회해본 적 없어요. 이 부분에 대한 제 관점은 변치 않았어요. 저는 태어나는 것을 원치 않았고, 다른 인간에게 삶을 강요하는 것을 거부합니다. 산다는 것은 저에게 끔찍한 일이에요. 삶의 허무함과 존재의 무의미함을 주장해놓고는 가족을 만들 수는 없죠. 그건 마음이 편치 않아요. "저는 삶을 굉장히 즐기고 있어요." 그는 웃으며 말한다. "하지만 그건 사실, 내 이런 상태에도 불구하고 즐기는 거죠."
